Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening

Teeth whitening is the process of lightening the color of the tooth or bleaching the tooth color as a result of using certain materials on the tooth surface. Our teeth can be observed after the physiological process, prostheses and old amalgam fillings, tetracycline-derived antibiotics, trauma or root canal treatments, and excessive use of tea, coffee, and tobacco. Generally, there are two types of whitening methods: Home type and office type. Home and office whitening techniques are used together in some cases. After office whitening is done, a more effective whitening is provided as a result of supporting it with home bleaching. External bleaching applied to live teeth is applied as home, office type or a combination of these. As a result of the treatments, up to 8-10 tons of whitening can be achieved. Whitening can be applied from children to elderly people. It can be applied from a single tooth to the entire tooth series. After the whitening process, over time, the teeth do not completely return to the state they were before the whitening application. However, depending on the patient’s diet, smoking or oral hygiene habits, reinforcement treatments may be required in the future. After the teeth whitening process is successfully completed in our Istanbul Smile Center clinic, re-applications can be made considering the consumption of our patients in their daily lives.

What are the side effects of teeth whitening?

In general, instantaneous sensitivities such as lightning can be observed in some teeth during or after the application. These sensitivities are completely temporary and short-lived. Sensitivity usually disappears within 24 hours.

How permanent is teeth whitening?

Recovery can be observed after bleaching. This return varies depending on the person’s consumption of coloring beverage/food (tea, coffee, etc.). Usually, a return can be observed within 18 months. At the end of the first year, which we recommend, it is supported with a second bleaching process, so that the whitening is more permanent.

During the bleaching process, it is necessary to stay away from tea, coffee, cigarettes, wine, cola, cherry juice, and heavy tomato paste foods.
